CHAPTER 23

Freya's sentencing day has come. The sentence is read out by the judge: 10 years in jail. Freya's whole world crumbles around her. She is numb, unable to grasp the reality of what is going on.

As she is led away in handcuffs, tears fall down her cheeks, and her family and friends look on in terror. Freya can't help but wonder how her life has come to this as she is brought out of the courtroom.

Freya's life came crashing down after her sentence. She struggled to accept the reality that she would be imprisoned for many years. Freya began to lose confidence in God, wondering how justice could be delivered when she knew she was innocent.

She had always felt that the truth would triumph in the end, but now she was starting to fear that the truth was insufficient. The system had failed her, and there seemed to be nothing she could do about it. Her lack of confidence in God and the legal system made her feel much more alone and vulnerable than she had been.

Freya's defence counsel pleads with the court for mercy in her punishment. He emphasises her absence of a past criminal record as well as her general excellent character.

He emphasises the fact that Freya has already suffered immensely as a result of the event, as well as the effect that a lengthy sentence would have on her mental health. He requests that the court examine alternatives to jail, such as community service or probation.
