“The plan is set, Dencil. If you deviate or try to get involved to help, you could get us or yourself killed,” I instructed him in the shower the next morning. Austin had showed me their Hangman game before returning the notebook to Dencil’s office and saying he had fun playing with the shredder.

“It’s all my fault,” he whispered and shook his head. “All of this is my fault and now I’m not even taking a single risk to make things right. The people I care about have been abused in the worst ways and you want me to stay in my office and hide.”

“Yes,” I hissed as I pushed him back against the tile. “I know you’re upset. I know you feel guilty. But you get in the way and it will make things twenty times worse. Trust in us that we can do this and you can help wash the blood off the grass. Then we heal. But now is not the time for pity parties and festering guilt that makes you stupid.”

“Fine, but I’m spanking you tomorrow for bossing me around.” There was no heat behind his words as he pulled me into his arms and buried his face in my neck. “I would pay a million fines to clean up this mess and see none of you hurt.”

“I know,” I whispered before we stepped out of the shower. We toweled off and I thought about what he’d told me yesterday. Dencil had spoken to some people he knew after his business meeting in Chicago. They told him he’d have to pay some pretty steep fines if the authorities had to get involved and handle Ben, Ralph, and David because Dencil had taken off their collars.

More importantly, we could be taken from him because of his potentially allowing dangerous creatures to be loose on an unsuspecting public. That’s why we decided to handle it ourselves. No one would care that Dencil had to put down a few defective slaves who got out of line. Sad but true.

“You look much better,” Ty greeted with a smile as we sat down at the kitchen table a little bit later.

“Thanks, I feel great,” I replied brightly.

“We should go for a run after breakfast and stretch out your sore muscles,” Austin suggested.

“That sounds perfect.” I shot a look over to Ben and his assholes. “I have something to handle real quick but then I’ll meet up with you guys.”

“Good deal.” Austin didn’t even flinch and went back to eating. We had agreed that there wasn’t much that could lure the dogs outside when we were in shifted form because they were no match for us—well, at least now that I was there. But Charlie had come up with what would piss Ben off enough to be reckless.

“See you at lunch,” I purred as we stood after breakfast was over, rubbing my hands down Dencil’s chest. “Think you’ll be in the mood to feast on me?”

“Always,” he whispered as he cupped my cheek.
