On Sunday, I don’t get up until after Jonny and Jimmy go to work at the mall. I gobble down the sandwich they made for me and stay in my study to work on my book, The Evolution of Women's Sexuality. It’s a book I started before my late husband passed away, and it’s basically a compilation of all the papers I’ve written since graduate school. I had the first draft ready when I moved to Big Rocks, and I told Dr. Xocotzin that I would finish it within a year when she hired me. But now it doesn’t look like it’ll be ready soon.

As much as I hate to admit, I don’t have the confidence in what I’ve written anymore. I have to re-examine most of the theories that I’ve defended throughout my academic career. I’m still reluctant to conclude the classical theories are flawed, because my aberrant behavior could be an exception, not a norm.

I cannot speak for the entire gender. Just because I’m in love with a young man doesn’t mean all women have the tendency. I might be a mutant, or I might be under some kind of spell.

I contemplate taking Dr. Xocotzin’s suggestion and consider social, cultural factors in shaping human nature, but that would abandon what I’ve believed for the past two decades. I can’t do that. Again, my experience is unusual. I’m not even behaving like myself. The moment I met Jonny, I was starved. And the reason I fell for Jimmy was because of his resemblance to Jonny.

I feel better after an hour’s careful analysis of my circumstances and decide that I shouldn’t lose faith in my work. I go to the university library, borrow some books and stay there for the rest of the afternoon to work on my research before going home.
