CHAPTER FOURTEEN
PAIGE
TODAY WAS our first private sacred stones class with Professor Harlixton, and I couldnât wait to get to class for once. I wouldnât let Ericâs drama or my sisterâs new promotion as the Sacred Stone Squad leader get me down today.
I had awesome powers, and I would learn how to use them right along with my friends.
After self-defense training, Stella, Owen, and I walked down the hall like we owned the place. Except, we werenât the only ones turning heads.
Finnâs shock of light blond hair stood out in the crowd as he made his way toward us.
âHi, Paige.â He planted his feet in front of me and grinned, like heâd just made my day.
Yeah, right.
âWhat do you want, Finn?â I crossed my arms over my chest and stared him down.
Stella and Owen flanked me on either side, mirroring my stance and staring daggers at the most popular douche in school. One of the many reasons I loved these guys.
His eyes flicked from Stella to Owen, then back to me. âCan we talk somewhere else? In private?â He leaned forward, eyebrows waggling.
Anger sizzled down my spine, and I curled my fingers into fists at my side. âAnything you have to say to me, you can say right here. In front of my friends.â
âFine, have it your way,â he growled, taking a few steps closer and lowering his voice. âIâve heard you have an exclusive group training in some pretty explosive techniques, if you catch my meaning.â Those eyebrows waggled away.
I sucked in a breath. âWhereâd you hear that?â I hissed.
An evil grin curled up his full lips. âIt doesnât matter where I heard it. All that matters is thisâif you let me in, Iâll keep your little secret. But if not â¦â he trailed off, gesturing around the crowded hallway.
âGet over yourself.â I spat out the words, glaring at the audacity of this guy. âIf I even had a little group, Iâd never let you join. Not after the way you treated me. So you can spread all the unsubstantiated rumors you want. But you and I will never work together.â
With that, I flung my hair over my shoulder and walked right past him.
Stella and Owen raced to catch up to me.
âThat was amazing.â Stellaâs eyes lit up as we made our way to the professorâs office.
âYou really had him by the balls.â Owen stared down at me with a smirk. âI definitely donât want to be the guy who crosses you.â
âThatâs right.â I smiled up at him as we reached the professorâs office.
When we reached Harlixtonâs office, Stella knocked on the door like the good little girl she was.
âCome in,â came Harlixtonâs booming voice through the opaque plexiglass.
Owen stopped me in the doorway. âMay I say that youâre looking particularly lovely today, Paige? Your latest creation is definitely some of your best work.â
Warmth singed my cheeks. âThanks, Owen. Iâm putting my brotherâs birthday present to good use.â
Last night I had sewn a beautiful teal peacock print into the lining of my jacket and trimmed the edges and the breast pocket with the same fabric.
