Chapter 16

It had been two weeks since his meeting at the house, and Bannon was feeling good about what had come out of the meeting. He didn’t like Dingo but respected the fact that the man knew what he was doing. Despite his rough appearance he was intelligent and hard working with a good head for this sort of business. Bannon had handed the file on Choi Chae Ae to him to see if his contacts or the detectives he hired could track her down. Dingo promised to give it a shot and see what he could dig up. He also promised to do some checking on the river front where the photos of Ms. Choi had been taken. It was also known to be where the other man identified as Colonel Ji Min-ho was occasionally seen. Since the colonel had been spotted twice in the same vicinity meeting questionable people made it a place both men agreed needed to be surveilled. It was a good place to start gathering needed intelligence.

In the meantime, the young marine who had been pressed into service as an informant began producing. It appeared that the SRA was expanding outside the military establishment and in need of more soldiers for their cause. The young man, who Bannon knew only as Prin, fit all the criteria. He had a good service record, the right politics, no real background in the criminal world, and was quickly introduced into the SRA operation in Pattaya. By now the SRA was confident it had penetrated the government’s security organs and neutralized the Criminal Research Unit which posed their only serious threat. They no longer feared a penetration of their own ranks.

Prin had been working as an infiltrator since before Bannon returned from Malaysia. Within his first few weeks he had met several people inside the Pattaya chapter of the organization and even identified a few of the SRA principals in the city. It was a start. At least it finally gave Bannon’s people someone to target. From Prin’s information they were able to track those bosses. And, as it turned out, he had been correct. They were heavily active in the bigger picture. Prin also led them to places that were being used as safe houses.

At the same time, other things were starting to fall into place. The weapons promised by the Contessa arrived. So too had the mercenaries along with a sizable volume of munitions. Bannon retrieved them in a remote location along the southern coast. Illana Macura had arranged the transport bringing them from Malaysia. She had them crossing the South China Sea into the Gulf of Thailand in a cargo trawler destined for Cambodia. Just inside international waters, at the southeastern corner of the country, they were met by local fishing boats bringing them the rest of the way.

As expected, both Anwar Razak and Zaid Saverine brought additional men with them. That was the reason Bannon didn’t want them entering the country through any means that would have recorded their arrival.
