Bray glanced about the Supreme’s office, a once meticulously tidy room that was now in disarray. Flek began to rearrange scrolls and manuscripts on the bookshelf, while wiping dust from tombs with his sleeve; a disgruntled look on his face.

It had been a few years since Bray had been last standing at this very spot, staring at the Supreme as he was given his title as Shaigun to the Pearly White. A decision that he had thought a punishment at the time but had come to realise was the correct one. Diagus had been a great Shadojak to be apprenticed to.

“I’ve heard the truth from Sibiet,” the Supreme said, touching his fingers together above his desk and forming a steeple as he stared over his spectacles. “Now I want to hear it from your own lips. Are you Shaigun to this imposter, this blasphemous creature that is spawn of Solarius?”

Bray met the icy glower of the most powerful man below the Emperor himself. A man who had been a Shadojak for over fifty years before becoming the Supreme. A giant in his day, as much feared as the Pearly White and who still held a Soul Reaver.

“I am, Master.”

Wrinkles deepened upon the old man’s face, crow’s feet growing long and showing him older than Bray remembered him to be.

“Can you be persuaded from this path, Bray?” the Supreme asked, his aged voice softened. “I’m sure others would take you on as Shaigun.”

“I cannot,” Bray replied.

“No,” the Supreme mumbled, sitting back in his chair and blowing air between his teeth.

He held Bray’s gaze before it fell down to the disorganised paperwork on his desk, his thick bottom lip protruding almost childlike as he began to push the parchment around.

“Elora,” he said, making it sound like a mystery there was no solving.

Bray watched the paperwork being shuffled around by shaking fingers. Some of the parchment was old, crumbling with stains that appeared equally as ancient while others seemed more recent and written with the same shaky hand that now jumbled them around. Yet the symbol on all of them was the same - the twin worlds.

“Chaos will unite us. Elora will set us free,” the Supreme whispered, his hand now hovering above the mess on his desk; fingers making circles in the air.

“A scribe Flek, for the love of the Mother, give me a scribe,” the old man screeched suddenly, acting like a totally different person.

Flek rushed to his side with a bottle of ink and a feather quill. The Supreme snatched the quill and with the aid of Flek guiding his shaking hand, dipped it into the ink. Then the quill touched the paperwork, scribbling in wide circles while he mumbled under his breath.

“Set us free, she will set us free.”

Bray glanced to Flek whose sad eyes could only watch as his master spoiled the pen, snapping the quill and tipping the ink bottle over the desk. Black liquid ran over the scrolls, thicker than visceral blood.
