Chapter 9
When Helen left her house, she had no idea of where to go to. She stayed in Margate for the one night and then decided to move. She liked to gamble so decided to go down to the Wild Coast Casino and book in there for a couple of days. She drove down not paying a lot of attention to the traffic around her and almost caused a collision on a number of occasions.
When Helen arrived at the Casino she booked in for a couple of days. She was shown to her room where she ordered a bottle of brandy. She had her supper brought to her room as she did not feel like being among other people. She spent the night drinking and thinking about her situation. She was getting tired of Carlâs attitude anyway and the thought to divorce him had passed through her mind on more than one occasion. So it was no real loss to her. But the thought of going to jail for killing him did bother her.
The next morning she had breakfast in the Casino dining room and went for a walk along the beach. The sound of the sea seemed to relax her even more than the bottle of brandy did. The sun was shining, but there were a lot of dark clouds appearing on the horizon over the sea. Helen found a spot to sit and marvelled at the contrast between the clouds and where the sun shone.
She wanted to call Tom and ask him to join her at the Casino, but decided not to call him because he would just say to her, âI told you so.â So she got up from the bench she was sitting on and walked a bit further down the beach. She kept an eye on the weather as she did not want to get wet when it started to rain. She returned to the Casino a couple of minutes before lunch.
Tom was out on his morning jog when he saw Helenâs picture on the front page of the newspaper. He stopped and bought a copy. He found a bench on the side of the road and read the article. He returned to his house and called Helen. There was no answer so he decided to go to her house. He had not been to her house since she got married to Carl. Tom had no time for Carl and did not trust him.
Tom arrived at Helenâs house to find it locked up. There was no one in sight. Not even the maids were around. Tom approached one of the neighbours to enquire about Helen, but no-one knew where she was. Her cell phone was off so he could not make contact with her. He decided to see Mavis, if anyone knew where Helen was then it would be her.
Tom drove up to Mavisâs house. He arrived just as Mavis was driving out. âGood morning Tom, what a pleasant surprise, what can I do for you?â she greeted smiling.
