Case Study—Leah

To understand how incest inflicts great suffering on human life, we need look no further than Leah. Her pain is almost unbearable to read about and unfortunately it is equaled in almost every incest case we see. To witness lives destroyed by early incest forces us to see what a terrible crime it is. I can say unequivocally, that without fully reliving the experience through Primal Therapy, victims do not get over it. Yes, there are those who believe they have conquered the trauma, but when they relive it for the first time they realize not only the true depth of their pain, but how much further they need to go in order to fully heal.

In her sexual relationships, Leah continued to provoke a most painful element of her trauma—anal intercourse—throughout her life. Why did she continue to engage in something that traumatized her? There are several reasons: First, the original memory was imprinted and was part of her nervous system. Thus, re-creating it was simply a matter of externalizing what she carried around in the “black box” of her brain everyday of her life. Another reason is that it was not only a trauma, but it also became a turn-on for her; she was sexually stimulated by it. So the event had two components: pleasure and pain, and in her re-creation she unconsciously hoped that the next time there would be love with it. It was her attempt at healing: to try and resolve the agony of it by being in control of it, instead of being the victim. What she wanted was to feel loved; if she gave her father, who had abused her, what he wanted, perhaps he would love her. He never did.

Leah:

I was molested from the time I was a baby until my parents were divorced when I was 10 years old. The "severe" abuse, which I had no memory of prior to Primal Therapy, included penetration with fingers and oral copulation before I was five years old. I have no explanation for this severe abuse coming to a stop. I speculated that perhaps I was old enough to contact my teachers and they might report it.

I was sexualized at a very early age. My earliest memories of being molested are as a baby, while having a diaper changed, being held down with a hand on my back and being penetrated anally and vaginally by something very painful. I struggled to be free of the pain as much as a baby could struggle without ever escaping the agonizing pain ripping through my body. In another Primal, I experience crying as a baby, the sound is something no one can mistake, of a baby in great need of comfort. As I am crying out for comfort, while in my crib, I begin to gag and choke, my cries being silenced by something large being forced into my mouth and down my throat. As my breath is being taken away, I feel like I am dying,
