5. Along the 3˝ opening, press each seam allowance onto the interfacing. Fig. D

6. Turn the bag right side out, shape the corners, and press.

7. Starting ¾˝ from the square corner, draw and sew a 2½˝ buttonhole. Make a test buttonhole with scrap fabric to ensure it will fit over the desired doorknob and adjust as necessary. Figs. E–F

Laura’s Tip

If your sewing machine does not allow for a buttonhole this long, sew a zigzag stitch down both sides of the drawn line and a few reinforcing stitches at both ends of the line.
