“When were you going to tell me Camila Bianchi is following you?” Jesse demanded in the kitchen that night. It was taco night, and I was in the middle of preparing all the fillings.

“It’s not that big a deal,” I said stupidly, the words sounding idiotic on my tongue. Of course, it was a big deal. An international superstar was following my social media. “She actually followed a few of us.”

Jesse rolled his eyes. “This clearly means you’re in the top three!”

“No, it doesn’t,” I told him firmly. “I could very well get cut off. Don’t count the eggs before they hatch.”

“Well,” Todd announced from the pan. “I’m one hundred percent certain you’re going to make it into the top three. You have a gift, Lennon.”

“Thanks Todd,” I mumbled as warmth spread through me. “I have to say my online following has ticked up a bit since she followed me. I’ve got an extra hundred followers today.”

“Damn,” Jesse said and let out a whistle. “Fingers crossed that encourages Ava to keep dressing you. I’m waiting to hear back from her on if she is dropping an outfit off for you tonight for your third Fire Round tomorrow.”

“Hopefully she does,” I said. “I have tagged her every time I wear her stuff, and people do ask where it’s from. I need her to keep dressing me. Her stuff beats anything I have.”

“I think she will definitely want to continue the arrangement,” Jesse said confidently as my phone beeped.

I picked it up and noted the new notification, more than fifty people had hit follow in the last hour, and I was starting to feel overwhelmed. Even my video channel had hit new heights with views and comments. I definitely had a strong chance of good fan support if I made it Live.

I absentmindedly scrolled through the feed, nearly dropping knocking the salsa off the bench when my eyes caught on a recent post from Veronica. My heart thumped in my throat, and a small sweat broke out on my forehead.

She posed alongside a pretty brunette, both of them on the beach. The caption was a simple smiley wearing sunglasses, but from the way they looked at each other in the picture…they were definitely dating.

“You okay, Lennon?” Jesse asked me as he walked past with plates of food, placing them on the table. He came to stand behind me after putting them down and wheezed slightly. “Yikes, you are definitely having an extra strong margherita tonight.”

“I just need a minute to register that,” I managed to get out before I put my phone face down. “Like, there is no good reason for me to even be upset. It’s my fault we aren’t together.”

“Um no,” Jesse tsked as he led me to the table. “Do not disregard your feelings. You are allowed to feel however you are feeling right now. You were in love with her. Maybe you still are. Those feelings don’t just disappear overnight.”

“I should be happy she’s happy,” I muttered darkly as I sighed into my hands.
