A Week Later

Kenzi is on a baking kick and I’m not complaining. She keeps herself busy in the kitchen completely obsessed with trying new recipes that she finds on online. She’s especially in love with her apron and the mixer I purchased for her when she told me she wanted to bake. I’m sitting at the bar of my kitchen, scrolling through my laptop, going over a new contract I’m supposed to sign. I’m investing in more business real estate and this work is better served in my office, but I can’t bring myself to leave Kenzi. Her face and tied hair is covered in flour. I’m finding it difficult to concentrate on my work with her around.

Because I want to claim her do damn bad.

And she hasn’t been the most helpful with keeping me tame. Surprisingly, Kenzi has been pushing more and more for me to claim her, and she doesn’t understand why I’m hesitant. I want her here with me forever. I want her to give me that before I claim her. I’ve brought up the option of her moving in with me permanently, and she’s still hesitant. I’m fully aware how difficult it is for Kenzi to adjust to new surroundings. New York was hard for her, but she made it through. I’ll go where she goes, and I know Kenzi would sacrifice her own comfort to make sure I keep my business running.

Kenzi pulls out another tray of baked cookies and I close my laptop. The smell is heavenly.

“All done?” It takes me a minute to realize she’s asking me about my work. She picks up on my procrastination when I don’t give her an answer.

“You really should just go to the office. I’ll be fine here by myself.” She doesn’t understand. Now that I have her, I don’t want to be away from her ever. It’s silly and childish, but I don’t give a shit. I need her. Kenzi sets the hot baking sheet on the stove and closes the oven. I walk over to her and pull off her oven mitts before I pull her into a sweet kiss.

“Would it help if I came with you?” That’s an offer I wasn’t expecting.

“Really? You’d do that for me?” She shrugs looking around the kitchen.

“I should probably stay behind and—" I pull her out of the kitchen before she can change her mind. I don’t even let her change clothes. I want to make this visit quick so I can get back to obsessing over her. Instead of a driver, this time I pull her into the garage and put her into my mid-sized SUV. I picked the car closest to the garage door for a quick exit.

“Erin, I didn’t realize you own so many cars.” I shrug, pulling out immediately after the garage door opens.

“It’s a hobby.” I tell her. The office is about thirty minutes away and I know Derrick will be there because this is a big contract. He’ll want to look over everything before he signs.
