Chapter 10

Kitty

“Kitty, someone left this for you outside the door. “Oh,” Alice stopped short when she found Kia and I on the bed, she was holding a thick brown envelope.

She made a knowing face as a small smile crept up her lips.

“Sorry, I didn’t realize he was here,” Alice said with a wink.

I got off the bed and walked up to her. Kia and I have been awake going over the last words of Julia’s letter.

Mrs. Bridget was number one on my list now. I needed to get everything I could on her, but the problem was I didn’t know where to start looking.

“It’s fine. What’s this?” I asked, pointing at the brown envelope.

“Don’t know. Found it at the door, and it has your name on it.”

I narrowed my eyes, taking it from her when Kia jumped from the bed to us. He snatched the envelope from me and threw it on the bed.

“What the hell?” I spread my palm in amazement.

“You’re not going to open something you don’t know who it is from. It could be a letter bomb or something.”

“Letter bomb?” I scoffed. “Don’t be ridiculous, Kia.”

“Okay, maybe not a letter bomb, but it could be harmful.” He insisted.

Alice chuckled, and we both turned to her.

“What?” Kia and I asked in unison.

“It’s just that the two of you are so cute.” She covered her mouth to stop more laughter from coming out.

I snorted, circling past Kia. I grabbed the envelope from the table and tore it open.

“Kitty, Kia might be right. The contents could be harmful. You’ve got to be careful.”

I paused, gazing from one to the other.

“Julia’s dead. And this could be a way of finding out who her killer is. Have you thought of that?”

“It could also be a way of you getting yourself killed.”

“Stop being so paranoid.”

“It’s called being safe.”

“No, I say it is a pathetic paranoia.”

“Stop it, both of you!” Alice snapped. “You two acting like kids every damned time.”

She faced me, “Kitty, you don’t think Julia’s death was a suicide?”

Her tone has a certain kind of seriousness to it. “No, I think her husband killed her.”

“That’s a serious accusation to make.” Kia made a face as she said that, and I rolled my eyes at him.

“Christian hasn’t been ruled out as a suspect in the earlier murders. This, is not going to be any different.”

“I heard about the suicide note. That’s enough evidence that Julia killed herself, don’t you think? Maybe she was tired of living in an abusive marriage like the one she had.” Alice concluded her theory.

“How did you know about the suicide note?” I remembered specifically telling Robin and the team to keep the letter a secret until I could figure it out.

If Alice knew, then someone on the inside must have told her.

“I have my way,” Alice said intending to sound light, but I could hear the tension in her voice.

“What ways, Alice? Robin?”

She shrugged carelessly. Damn the idiot!

“Keep quiet about it, would you? I don’t want too many people knowing about it until I figure out who wrote that letter.
