Chapter Nine
Kellan helped her off his lap and stood, running his hands down her body possessively. He was finding that his true heart was a drakaina of rare quality. Not only had she pleased him beyond measure last night, but his bedding her seemed to have helped her to settle. There was no question in Kellanâs mind that MÃorúilt had a deeply sensual and passionate nature, one which he planned to exploit and enjoy for the rest of their lives.
He wondered if she realized her importance to both their species and to him. It made him proud that knowing nothing of their kind, she had been able to embrace the reality of who she was, create a life completely on her own and had begun to safeguard others. Their people would be blessed by a lady who would see not only to their lordâs needs but theirs as well.
âKellan, may I fly up to the cave and see to my women? They will be worried about me and I can reassure them that you mean me no real or lasting harm.â
âThen you would play them false. For if you disobey me, I will cause you real harm that will last several hours, days or longer depending upon the severity of my correction. And your ladies are no longer in their stronghold. I will go today to remove the remainder of their things...â
âWhere have they gone? What have you done with them?â she accused, putting distance between them.
Kellan thought it best to quell her quarrelsome nature quickly before it got out of hand and reached out to stop her. Growling, he spun her back to him, pulling her so that her body was braced across his. Without a second thought, he rained a series of five hard strikes across her derriere. When she tried to struggle, he landed another set of five.
âEnough, MÃorúilt. I have done nothing to your women except to take them into my care and assign our warriors to lodge them and keep them safe in the citadel.â
âYou cannot do that,â she cried, suddenly reminded of the high-handed way in which he had dealt with her, ashamed that her lust for him had so quickly caused her to forget his arrogance.
âDo not tell me I cannot do what I have already done. The women who dwelled unnaturally alone in the Cave of Tears will now be placed with loving mates who will see to their safety and correction.â
âTheir safety and correction?â she shrilled. âThey are in no need of your or any other manâs correction, and I provided for their safety.â
âAnd yet, they are now housed more appropriately with our men and you have taken your place in my bed as my mate and mother to my heirs and daughters. Do not argue with me, mate, or I may well choose to chastise you for using our most sacred place as a hideout for your outlaws and renegades.â
âThey are no more renegades than I am.â
âMy thoughts precisely,â he snarled.
