A Mage Exits

Tangie rolled on her back and took deep breaths. She was exhausted. She lay for a few moments before she remembered the bozzleberries. She reached in her pocket and grabbed one, quickly tossing it in her mouth. She bit down and chewed the berry, swallowing it. After a few seconds, she felt her body start to rejuvenate. The exhaustion left her body and her breathing stabilized. She rolled over on her hands and knees, then pushed herself up. She walked back to the pool of water and took a drink, cupping her hand and scooping water to her mouth. Then she grabbed one of the meal cubes from her pocket and put it in her mouth.

The meal cube was surprisingly tasty. She chewed on it for several minutes, as it appeared to expand with every bite. When she was finished, she was full. She felt refreshed, energized and satiated.

"One down. If they all are like this., I'm in trouble."

The journey continued as she went back to following the cave wall. Thoughts of the last conversation she had with her father filled her mind. She was fifteen. He was about to go on one of his trips. She didn't know how dangerous those trips were for him. People on his own team wanted him dead, and the government wanted information he wasn't willing to give. He had to hide all of this from two teenage children at home.

"Must've been very stressful... and I was a brat. If I find him, I promise I will do my best to make it up to him."

She thought a little more about different memories of her father.

"When I find him."

She walked for about three more hours with no sign of anything. The same noises were following her as she traveled. This time, she welcomed the noise.

"Silence is bad," she thought.

Tangie stopped in her tracks. She couldn't move; something had caught her feet. She activated her visor and looked down at her feet. She had stepped into a web of some sort, a spider's web. She looked around to see that the webbing covered the whole area.

Activating her sword, she cut through the webs that bound her feet and kept the weapon in hand, slicing through the web as she pushed on.

The silence started again.

Then there was clicking.

She looked around to see large spiders approaching. One of them shot a web from its tail in her direction. It landed on her hand. The spider walked backward, pulling her to the ground. She cut the web with the sword, then shot the spider with her NIP, killing it. She fired a concussion shot through the web, carving out a path. She walked a few more feet and shot her NIP again to widen the path.

Another spider dropped from above, dangling in front of her face. It shot a web into Tangie's face, covering her visor. It pulled at her, causing her to fall and dragging her along the cave floor. With a thought, the visor disintegrated, causing the web to fall away.
