Footnotes

1For example, in the LTE standard [22, 23], there are two kinds of uplink reference signals: the demodulation reference signals (DMRS) and the sounding reference signals (SRS). The DMRS is designed to estimate the small-scale fading coefficients and is transmitted every 1/2 subframe of 0.5 ms. The SRS is design to estimate the large-scale fading coefficients and is transmitted every 2 subframes at most and every 32 frame (320 subframes) at least. It is clear that the resource spending on estimating the large-scale fading coefficients is much less than that of estimating the small-scale fading coefficients. Since large-scale fading coefficients change much slowly, they can be obtained by averaging the received signal power corresponding to the SRS.
