Aria

The last few days have been some of the best of my entire life. Wyatt has given me a sense of safety and comfort I haven’t known for years and I’m grateful for it.

Maybe we’ve only been playing a more grown-up version of house but regardless, it’s been wonderful.

Every day we wake up and Wyatt makes breakfast. He says it’s because he likes to do it for me, but I suspect the truth is he doesn’t like my cooking. Which is fine with me. I don’t really like my cooking either. If anyone can ruin a bowl of cereal, it’s me.

Because there’s been nothing but time, we then always take a slow walk through the woods, trudging through the snow, seeing some truly incredible things. Yesterday I saw a brilliantly red cardinal against the white backdrop of a fresh snowbank and I thought I was looking at a postcard.

After our walk, we’ll come back to the cabin and have slow, luxurious sex. We take our time, feeling and exploring every inch of each other. Wyatt has taken such care to learn my body, my needs and wants, learning the spots that drive me wild and send me over the moon.

Today, we finish making love and I roll over into his arms.

“Wyatt,” I say, sighing his name.

“What is it, baby?” he says with a sweet tenderness.

I grin at him.

“Nothing. I just like the sound of your name,” I say.

He squeezes his hand on my side and a thrill runs up my spine.

“I like hearing you say it,” he replies.

He leans over and gives me a deep kiss. I breathe into him as he does. Then Wyatt gets up from the bed and the sheets slide off his firm, taut body and I watch admiringly as he walks away from me to head to the bathroom.

I stretch in bed like a cat as he comes back. He’s now wearing sweats and a T-shirt, to my disappointment.

“Not fair, you getting dressed without giving me adequate time to prepare,” I pout at him.

He laughs and shakes his head.

“Well, I’m very sorry, Miss Aria. But if we are gonna get your fine ass to the city and to your friend’s newspaper in time, we gotta get moving,” he says with a grin. I spring up from the bed, feeling proud and good being naked. I feel his eyes on me, like a hawk on a rabbit, and I like it.

“But you’re making the decision harder for me,” he says mischievously.

I pad over to him and kiss his cheek, running into the bathroom myself.

I come out a few minutes later, dressed, and Wyatt has fresh, hot tea ready to go and he’s getting himself together. I take a look out the window and the snow has stopped falling, though there’s plenty on the ground still.

“You think we’ll be able to make the drive okay?” I ask him.

He nods.

“I think so. It may be a little tricky getting out of here, but by the time we get to the main roads, we’ll be fine.
