When Patanjali speaks of mind and its modifications, he includes the thoughts, emotions, and all these primitive forces. Even if you only study these four primitive forces, you will be able to progress. There is a technique for knowing how to sleep and how to eat food. Patanjali does not say not to eat food. If the best food is offered to you, can you say you do not want to eat it? If you do not happen to sleep sometimes, can you just go on without sleeping? Do you have that power? Okay. Today I will not sleep because I have to do some important work. I will sleep later on. Why are human beings so completely controlled by sex? What is the point of it? Can you abstain from it? Consciously abstaining from sex is control.
