Finding the right trainer
There’s no hard and fast rule that a guest speaker or trainer has to be from within your own industry. In fact, sometimes it’s best if he isn’t. You want to find someone whose message can resonate with your sales team and bring value to your meeting whatever his background.
First, determine what type of person you’re looking for:
Speaker: Someone who comes in simply to inspire your sales team. He can deliver a speech and probably take questions and interact but can’t necessarily discuss or work on sales skills.
A trainer: A trainer doesn’t necessarily have to focus on sales. Perhaps you want to bring someone in to work with your team on business etiquette, social media, or just business in general. Many good trainers can help your team immensely without ever discussing sales.
Sales trainer: This person comes to talk sales. You task him with educating, enlightening, and building your sales team through his methods, experience, or techniques. Again, he doesn’t have to be industry specific, but he can focus on everything from prospecting to asking for the sale.
