Chapter 5

She’s beautiful. His heart gave a start. When he returned from the kitchen with the lamp, he set it down on the nightstand. He didn’t take in the sight of anything else in the room but her. If anyone were ever to ask him to describe it, he would honestly state there was a bed and a breathtaking vision in the center of it. She had pulled a sheet over her body and was now sitting up in bed with her lovely ebony hair around her in waves. Her swollen lips curled up into a sweet smile as he entered again. If he had thought she would have had a change of mind in his absence, it had not been the case. Rachel was not falling into his arms because of a moment of passion to heal what had been inflicted on her, she was making a conscious decision to lay with him. That did something inside of him, touched a deep part of him he’d shoved down and away from her for so many years, while he tried to make something of himself. He had not allowed himself to really hope that Rachel would want him, he’d just believe that if someone else had not married her, he’d have a chance to woo her to him. Now, as she smiled, and her eyes lit up at his presence he wondered if it had it been his stupidity that had kept them apart for so long. Maybe she would have wanted to be with him even when he had nothing to offer her, that they could have worked together to achieve a goal.

As he started unbuttoning his shirt, he told himself this was not the time, tonight he’d give her the passion she requested and tomorrow he would make a firm plan where Rachel was concerned.

Her eyes tracked his movements, and he noticed the rapid rise and fall of her chest behind the thin covering. “Lower the sheet, darlin’. I want to see your breasts.”

With the same boldness as she’d shown when she’d undressed, she dragged the sheet down until her small, lovely breasts were revealed.

His erection hadn’t decreased since he’d left to get the lamp from the kitchen table, and now it grew harder as he saw her in the bright light. The fire light had been enticing as it gave her skin an amber glow, but it had also created shadow here and there along her body and now it was as if he was seeing her anew. He tossed the shirt to the floor, then toed out of his boots. He reached for his belt next.

“May I touch you?” Her voice sounded low, but he could hear the notes of wonder in it.

“Absolutely.” His dick jerked and he knew the part of his body that seemed to have a mind of its own, was hoping she meant it. However, he’d only released the buckle and she hadn’t seen his length in his pants. He moved to the bed and sat down beside her.
