SUNDAY

The alarm on the nightstand startled Gregg awake when it went off. He smacked it hard with impatience and held his head as it pounded. He moaned, realizing that he was hung over, and reminded himself that he wasn't the young man he used to be. He should have known better than to drink when he had to get up only a few hours later to finish the conference.

He rolled into a sitting position and was surprised to see that he'd undressed during the middle of the night. He didn't bother putting on his boxers, which were close by on the floor. Instead he got up slowly, stretched, and stumbled his achy body to the bathroom and used the toilet. As he stood and relived himself, he heard noise coming from the bedroom. In a panic he leaned his head back to see what it was, and was alarmed to see a woman sitting up in the same bed that he'd just gotten out of. He'd thought that he was alone.

Gregg's heart raced as he finished relieving himself. What in the world was going on?! Who was in the bedroom with him, and why?!!!

Suddenly, a barrage of memories attacked him from the previous night. A play by play of the interactions he had with the young woman now in his bed beat him over the head. He knew who she was. He met her and her friend at the elevator when he finished the day's events at the conference. She was beautiful, and looked super sexy in her dress. He couldn't sleep, so he went downstairs to the bar, and she was there. They talked, and then... Then...

"Oh, God," Gregg whispered.

He bit his lip, fearful that she had heard. But there was no need to hide. They'd seen and done all the night before.

He wanted to curse, but caught himself and forced the frustration to stay inside. He wanted to cry. As grown and as strong as he was, he wanted to break down, because at that moment, his heart filled with thoughts of Kelly, and he knew he didn't deserve her. She was so beautiful, and so patient, and after all of the horrific things he put her through, she still loved him enough to give him another chance. She was the most forgiving woman that he'd ever known. How could he be so dumb to throw away the best thing that had ever happened to him—his loving wife, over a one-night stand with a random girl?

He peeked into the bedroom again. Camille was sitting on the edge of the bed, facing the opposite direction, putting on her underclothes. He flushed the toilet and washed his hands, but was too afraid to face her. Not after last night. Not after what they did. He shook his head and tried to shake away the memories, but they remained. He could still feel her body against his, too. He prayed for the feeling to go away, and asked the Lord for forgiveness, too.
