Finding the site: From Hallelujah Junction where US Highway 395 and CA Highway 70 meet, drive west on CA Highway 70 for 5.5 miles and turn right onto Frenchman Lake Road (CA Highway 284). Drive 4.4 miles and turn right at the sign for Frenchman Recreation Area onto Forest Road 24N44. Drive 4 miles and stay right to turn onto Forest Road 24N88; then drive 0.3 mile to the tailings piles on the right. At the time of visit, the last 0.3 mile of the road, from the old foundations in the meadow on Forest Road 24N88 to the tailings piles, was washed out and accessible only by foot.
