Investigating the Structures of the Being
At this stage of the practice, it is possible to explore the different structures of the being one by one, in a precise and keen manner, by focusing on one specific aspect or another, in a gradual and systematic way, especially during the conscious resting periods after each series of movements, or after the spinal breathing exercise (practiced seated or lying down).
Focusing on the Six Energy Centers
It is possible to come up through the energy centers, always starting at the base center, and moving from the gross centers toward the subtler ones, stopping at each center in order to concentrate on a particular phenomenon, and then going back to the unique source of all manifestation. With this aim in mind, the inquiry will first focus on the states of matter, and then on the states of awareness and the structures of the being associated with each state, always seeking to examine and understand the essential nature of the one who claims to carry out this inquiry.
According to this logic, which belongs to different points of view of Indian philosophy and traditional yoga, the base energy center, located at the level of the coccyx and the anus, can be the starting point for concentrating on the earth element or the solid state. In order to do this, one can become aware of one's skin, muscles, bones, organs, and one's entire physical structure, also allowing this awareness to spread to the ground on which the body is resting, and to all internal and external solid material. The concentration is more effective when it is synchronized with the breath: when you inhale, let the sensation of the earth element emerge, and when you exhale, allow the feeling that this unique sensation brings to emerge, which, in this case, corresponds to a sense of solidity, stillness, and utmost tranquility. There is nothing to imagine or create: everything is already here and it is only a matter of recognizing it.
The clear perception of solidity will naturally reveal the awareness of the water element, which is subtler, and whose gravity center is located, in a matter of speaking, in the sacral center in the pubis region. The water element corresponds to the liquid state: not to the liquids in the body, per se, which belong to the earth, but to the rivers of energy and to the currents of vibration that inhabit and flow through the physical body. The concentration, synchronized with full awareness of the breath will, as noted above, gradually reinforce the sensation of the currents of vibration that go beyond the limits of the skin, and allow a feeling of fluidity, reassurance, well-being, and tremendous vitality to emerge.
By maintaining this concentration, the perception of the water element will give rise to awareness of the fire element and the igneous state: the attention will shift to the lumbar center, in the solar plexus region, and the sensation will continue to spread, with a powerful feeling of the vibrations accompanied by heat and light, which will begin to burn the sense of “me” and the feeling of doership.
