Patio stones resembling the outlines of states—

Montana wet, post-rain, like an irritated eye.

When a bus goes by, my radio seltzers in and out

of blue-hour wavelengths. From the west, a stench

of sunset souping the reservoir. I consider this

as I step on Vermont, barefoot, the lower-left corner

where Bennington would be. And the stone warmer

than the air around it, where, in the real, maybe pine

trees, a field. The corpse of Frost

is under my heel.
