Jehovah’s Witnesses confess that in order to please God, they must start to live in a way that pleases God in order to be accepted by Him.

In their book “What does the bible really teach?” they have quoted in pages 121-122 that in order to start living in a way that pleases God, one must begin to shun sin and abhor what Jehovah hates. They have not mentioned throughout this chapter the name of Jesus once or His perfect sacrifice for redemption, and thus believe that they can start living a godly life without accepting the Lord Jesus as their saviour.

In chapter 18 of this book, I will further look at ‘Faith alone, in Christ alone plus nothing’ however in this chapter; I will be touching on how that works cannot save us for our sins.

In the Gospel according to Matthew, the Lord Jesus spoke concerning who will stand before Him and those who will try and work their way to heaven.

Matthew 7:21-23 (KJV)

“Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”

Notice here that there will be those who will say “Lord, Lord” and they will not enter into the Kingdom of Heaven. First of all, by looking at the beginning of this passage, we can see what reason the Lord gave them for not granting them entry to the Kingdom of Heaven, and that is that they never done the will of the Father, which is in Heaven. Jehovah’s Witnesses claim that the will of the Father is to preach the Gospel of the Kingdom, but that would contradict what the end of this passage shows with regards to workers of iniquity. Therefore what is the will of the Father that someone may get entry into the Kingdom of Heaven? Well we can find this in John’s Gospel.

First of all, what is the work we need to do?

John 6:28-29 (KJV)

“Then said they unto Him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on Him whom He hath sent.”

The disciples in discussion with the Lord Jesus here asked Him what work shall they do, which is the works of God? The response was that they believed on Him (The Lord Jesus) and this is the work of the Father.

This is the work of the Father, and this coincides with the Father’s will for mankind which again you can read further down in the same chapter.
