After all the action in the previous four days, Cassi was relieved when little happened on Wednesday and Thursday. At home, that was because Mike was busy at work, leaving early in the morning and coming home late. At school, it was mostly because Harmony was absent, which removed the chance of an Emma-Harmony flare up.

The peace was broken Thursday evening. Cassi was cleaning up after eating her meal alone. She was just checking that her father’s dinner wasn’t drying out too much in the oven when Quinn burst through the back door into the kitchen.

“I trusted you!” he yelled. “I trusted you.” He began pacing around the kitchen repeating the phrase over and over.

“Calm down, Quinn!” Cassi ordered.

“No! I won’t calm down. I trusted you. You’re the first girl I ever trusted. I knew it was wrong. I should never have believed you. You’re just the same as all the others.” He was almost in tears.

“What are you talking about?”

“You, giving away my phone number. You gave it to Harmony, didn’t you.”

“I did not,” said Cassi, glaring at him. “I never gave your phone number to anyone.”

Quinn stopped pacing. “Then how did Harmony get it? You’re the only one I ever gave it to.”

Cassi didn’t answer. She was thinking back to Tuesday after school. When Emma had returned the phone. She’d said she had got it from Harmony. At the time Cassi had thought it was unlikely that the two had made up so quickly. Now she wondered if they had.

“How do you know it’s Harmony?” she asked.

“Because she says it is, stupid.”

“Let me see.”

Quinn pulled out his phone and showed her screen after screen filled with abusive messages. The name Penguin was used several times along with insults such as ‘Lard Ball.’ Cassi’s name also appeared followed by ugly comments about her friendship with Quinn. Each message was signed with the name Harmony.

“That’s weird,” said Cassi. “Nobody signs a text message.”

“Harmony does. She always does. Probably just to make sure I know it’s her.”

“But anybody could use her name on a text. What number are they coming from.”

Quinn grunted. “I don’t know. She’s using an anonymous website, probably Pinger.”

Cassi shook her head slowly. “Something’s wrong here. Do you really think Harmony would know how to do that? I don’t. Most normal people don’t.”

“Harmony’s not normal,” mumbled Quinn.

For a minute or two there was silence before Cassi broke it with, “Right! I’m going for a run so I can call in at Harmony’s house. I need to sort this stuff out. I’ll make contact sometime later.”

…

Cassi didn’t know what to expect when she knocked on the back door of the Robinson house, which made her a bit nervous.

“Be there in a minute,” came the call from inside. A female voice, not Harmony’s.

When the door did open, there was no doubting that the woman was Harmony’s mum. She had the same sharp features, plus she had a walking stick in one hand and was holding tightly to the door with the other.
