Chapter Five

Christmas carols filled the house. Ryker set a new sound system up for the occasion and it definitely helped set the ambiance I was going for. I'd gone over the top myself, getting a Christmas tree for each room and enough lights to rival the Christmas train we'd just left. The rest of the trip went great, the tracks cleared by the next morning and we'd gotten to stop at the last two locations.

The moment we got home Lincoln had sent the contract off to our lawyer and we all read over and discussed his comments on it at dinner. Overall it was fairly cut and dry, ten thousand per location to our team as a whole, we got the freedom to investigate as we saw fit, but they did ask that we stay for a week minimum at each location. We preferred those over the quick nights anyway, it was just up to whether we were truly ready to get back out there after Mack. My viewers had been understanding and patient, but the thought of getting back fully to our regular hunts was terrifying.

"I'm out of tinsel!" Olivia's voice echoed into the kitchen where I was gathering a fresh round of drinks. I grabbed the tray and went back into our living room, smiling at the sight of her standing on a step ladder, her new boyfriend Charley steadying it below her. I liked him immediately and I was so damn proud of her for dating again. Mack hadn't just ruined my life, but he'd used my best friend as a tool against me, hurting her in the process.

"There's more in that box," I pointed out as I sat the drinks down. Ben grabbed the box and handed it over before getting back to hanging ornaments. This was the last tree and our party started in an hour so everyone was chipping in.

"It's coming down out there," Lincoln grumbled as he and Ethan came in with bundles of firewood. Ryker was coaxing the flames back to life since we'd gotten busy and let it die down. But by the time the Polterguys got here, it would be perfect.

Apparently Ryker had also hooked our doorbell to the new system, because when the guys got here and rang it, the sound echoed through the whole house, nearly scaring Olivia off of her ladder.

"They're here," I squeaked, nerves getting the best of me. This meant our answer would be final and this partnership more real. After working so well together, Paul had sent one final contract, a big building, the same money, but a collab with the Polterguys.

When I opened the door, the Polterguys rushed in out of the snow, stomping the snow off of their shoes. Kade was right behind them and I raised my eyebrow. The blush in his cheeks meant that I was right about the flirty vibes I was getting from them all. Good for them. This could be a lonely business and finding solace in each other is the best way to go.
