Kate looked up from her notepad as Don entered the bedroom.

He glanced at her papers, there were filled with lists. “What do you have planned for today?” From past experience Don knew her to-do list was in a specific order.

“I thought I’d drop you off and then go to the cottage. Depending upon how long I’m there, I’ll either bring you an early lunch or wander around Main Street. After lunch, I’m going to shop for kitchen supplies, dishes, pots, and pans. You get the idea.” Kate chewed on the pen cap. “I may end up ordering what I need online and have it shipped to the winery if that’s okay?”

“Of course, it is. Remember, our family owns the place, lock, stock, and all shipments.”

He kissed the top of her head, “Are you ready for breakfast? I’d like to get into the office early. I need to look over a couple of supplier contracts before lunch.”

She picked up her bag and followed him down the stairs. “I smell coffee and it’s making me hungry.”

He ushered her through the kitchen doorway. “Morning, Mom.”

Mom glanced up from the paper. “There’s fresh coffee. I left the cereal on the counter, and if you want a muffin they’re under the tea towel. Help yourself.”

Don glanced out the back door, looking for his father. “Where’s Dad?”

“He’s taken to sleeping in most days but is usually up by eight.” She glanced at the clock and smiled. “You two are up early.”

She placed a coffee mug and bowl on the table and pulled out the chair. “I made a list of everything I want to get done this week. I may be overly ambitious but I hope to get at least half done by dinner.”

“Speaking of dinner, last night I wrote down a list of good restaurants. It’s on the counter.”

“Thanks, Sherry. While I’m in town, I’ll see if any menus are posted. Then I’ll surprise Don.” Kate flashed him a loving smile. “He’ll eat anything.”

Not speaking directly to either of the women at the table, he said, “You know me so well.”

“Don, would you like to use my car this week since Kate will be busy?” Mom pointed to the hooks on the wall. “Nowadays Dad and I go places together. He even likes going to the market with me.”

“I can’t picture Dad strolling up and down the aisles, while you shop.” He chuckled.

“Believe it or not, your father is quite the bargain hunter, better than me.”

“Did I hear someone talking about me?” Dad walked into the kitchen sporting jeans, a T-shirt, and sneakers, looking relaxed and happy.

“Good morning, dear. Don’t you look handsome.” Mom offered her cheek for a kiss.

Dad obliged before crossing the kitchen to retrieve a mug.

“I was just telling the kids you’ve become quite the bargain hunter. Oh, and I offered Don the use of my car since Kate has lots of errands planned.”

“That’s fine. We don’t have anything going on.” Dad sat down at the table and studied the change in his son’s appearance.
