Razor

From my bed, I scroll my phone looking at endless bullshit online while Oakleigh paints on the balcony.

I never knew she enjoyed painting, but after the first week here, she told me she wanted to give it a go.

I wasn’t about to stop her, and so we went further into the city to get her some supplies.

Now, half of our room is a damn art studio, but it brings a smile to her face so I’m happy.

The sun setting casts a warm glow on her, making her look like an angel.

It’s been a few weeks since we arrived here and from what she’s told me her father has started to calm down.

She calls or texts him a couple of times a week, lets him know she’s okay, but hasn’t told him she’s here with me.

I breathe in deeply, happier than I’ve been in a long time.

Not only am I a VP of a club, but I have a great woman by my side.

Ever since she’s come into my life, every day has been brighter.

I’m immensely proud of her for everything she’s been doing.

Since being back she’s only asked for cocaine twice, and I got it for her, ensuring it wasn’t going to be some cheap shit cut with fentanyl.

Since then, she hasn’t asked for it once . . . and now we’re going on three weeks of her being clean.

The worst she does is has a few shots of liquor, but I don’t hold it against her. Sometimes I need a release too.

"Razor!" Her cheerful voice pulls me from my thoughts. "Come over here, I want your opinion."

Rising up from the bed, I stride over to her, taking in the sight of her braids—now a mixture of red, orange, yellow, and black-– cascading down her back like a waterfall.

She had to get them redone earlier this week, and we found a woman not too far away that does a damn good job.

Oakleigh was happy with them and told the woman she’d be back, so that’s all that matters to me.

Fuck, she's so damn gorgeous she takes my breath away most days.

"Whatcha got?" I ask, leaning against the entryway to the balcony.

"This, I think it’s my best one yet. What do you think?" She points at her canvas.

Scanning over it, the colors blend together in a way that I can't describe.

She doesn’t paint objects, she kind of throws colors together and somehow it turns out looking awesome.

I think she said it was abstract art.

"Damn right it is," I agree, honestly admiring her work. “Maybe we can put this one up in the bedroom,”

She’s been allowing most of them to dry and has been storing them, hoping to sell them at some point.

This one is different, though, so I want it in our room.

She smiles brightly, her dark chocolate eyes sparkle with pride, and I can't help but look at her.

Oakleigh comes over to me and wraps her arms around my torso. "Thanks, babe. Your support means the world to me.”

I press a tender kiss on her forehead.
