Finishing

1 Having smoothed the outside of your pot, you can incise a pattern into its surface.

2 Achieve a polished inner surface by burnishing with a glassy smooth pebble.

3 You can also burnish the outside of a cooking pot to a polish.

Firing

1 Build a small fire and surround it with the dried pots – warming them through will dispel trapped moisture.

2 With the pots hot but still touchable, scrape the fire into a circle; place pots in the centre to heat to firing stage.

3 Gradually build the fire inwards to cover the pots; build high – don’t overburden pots with timber.
