Billy’s wife tapped on her champagne glass with a fork. “Everyone gather together please.”

The crowd flocked together to toast the jubilant birthday boy and sing him “Happy Birthday.” With alcohol in everyone’s system, people loosened up and the DJ turned up the music. Eventually, Sela started chatting with a fellow party-goer whose shoes she admired and Ramon excused himself to get another drink.

As he made his way back to Sela, Britney stepped in and blocked his path.

Her blue eyes shone. “I must say that I'm somewhat jealous.”

“Hi.” They’d avoided each other all night. Ramon made a note to ask Billy how she’d managed to attend.

“Hello,” she purred as she moved toward him.

Ramon thought she wanted a quick hug, but when Britney’s lips came inches from his face, he turned his head away. Her lips landed at his cheek.

She smiled and moved back.

A throat cleared.

Ramon and Britney turned to face Sela.

“What’s going on here?” Sela asked, her voice holding authority.

“Nothing,” Britney said, her eyes squinting at Sela.

“There’s someone I’d like you to meet,” Sela told Ramon without missing a beat.

Ramon smiled. “Okay, after you.”

Sela turned on her heels and as Ramon followed, he never thought she’d ever been sexier. Though they weren’t a couple, Sela had shown that Ramon was not to be circled by other women. She’d come across bold, and he loved it.

As they snaked through the crowd, Ramon was not interested in who he was about to meet. The only thing on his mind was how he’d get Sela into his bed that night.
