“Is that what last night was about?” Johnathan sounded... hurt. “Living out your childhood crush?”

Tara shifted uneasily. “Well... yes.A little.” She became defensive as his face seemed to close up. “What was it supposed to be?True love? We don’t even know each other. There was an immediate physical attraction, okay? And that, coupled with knowing what you were... went a long way toward making what happened last night happen. Is that so wrong?”

“It’s just...” Johnathan swallowed, looked away. Tara glanced at Jacob, held out her hands in a pleading gesture.

Jacob appeared calmer. He glanced at his brother, looked back at Tara. “Johnathan’s... sensitive. He has premonitions.Knows things, sometimes, before they actually happen. He’s been telling me for three weeks that we were going to meet our mate here.” Something flickered behind his eyes. “We would have left a couple of weeks ago, if not for that.”

Tara remembered the impression of desperation she’d received the night before. “Are you guys on the run?”

Jacob shrugged.Nodded.
