I stared up at the canopy bed. My limbs were sore from the sparring. There was more than one reason I wished I had been able to skip it earlier. I could still feel the rush of desire vibrating through me, lust’s deep call tickling my every inclination.

I tried to yell again.

“There’s no point in yelling. I won’t hurt you. I’m just here to talk.” Kyan winked at me and I could feel the impression of the vow made by the Priestess between us, pulsing through me and into him, the touch of his fingers on my wrist, the pressure of his hand over my lips… It made me feel drawn to him, made me melt before those green eyes, made me trust him. Made the yells I wanted to yell be more about screaming at him for wanting to betray me, not yelling for guards to come capture him.

And he could sense that difference.

So he released my mouth and wrist. He still took the blade from under my pillow, setting it aside on the far table.

He scooted onto my bed. I moved against the pillow so I was sitting up better. His black hair and green eyes were so beautiful, his lips always slightly curled up like he knew that his smile could make whomever he was around swoon. The dimples that made him seem childlike and charming certainly helped.

“What are you doing here, Kyan?” I was surprised by how low and controlled my voice was. My heart was racing. My fingers felt steady on the surface of the sheets, but my body was tingling.

“I want to ask you to be my partner, again. I don’t want us to have a war, Topaz. I don’t want that to be the answer. I don’t want to risk Drakona lives. I love this kingdom. That’s why I am doing what I have done.
