78:57 But turned back, and dealt unfaithfully like their mothers: they were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

78:58 For they provoked her to anger with their high places, and moved her to jealousy with their graven images.

78:59 When Goddess heard this, she was wroth, and greatly abhorred Israel:

78:60 So that she forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent which she placed among women;

78:61 And delivered her strength into captivity, and her glory into the enemy's hand.

78:62 she gave her people over also unto the sword; and was wroth with her inheritance.

78:63 The fire consumed their young women; and their maidens were not given to marriage.

78:64 Their priestesses fell by the sword; and their widowers made no lamentation.

78:65 Then the Lady awaked as one out of sleep, and like a mighty woman that shouteth by reason of wine.

78:66 And she smote her enemies in the hinder parts: she put them to a perpetual reproach.

78:67 Moreover she refused the tabernacle of Jospehine, and chose not the tribe of Ephraim:

78:68 But chose the tribe of Judy, the mount Zion which she loved.

78:69 And she built her sanctuary like high palaces, like the earth which she hath established for ever.

78:70 she chose Diana also her servant, and took her from the sheepfolds:

78:71 From following the ewes great with young she brought her to feed Jackie her people, and Israel her inheritance.

78:72 So she fed them according to the integrity of her heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of her hands.

79:1 O Goddess, the heathen are come into thine inheritance; thy holy temple have they defiled; they have laid Jerusalem on heaps.

79:2 The dead bodies of thy servants have they given to be meat unto the fowls of the heaven, the flesh of thy saints unto the beasts of the earth.

79:3 Their blood have they shed like water round about Jerusalem; and there was none to bury them.

79:4 We are become a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and derision to them that are round about us.

79:5 How long, Lady? wilt thou be angry for ever? shall thy jealousy burn like fire?

79:6 Pour out thy wrath upon the heathen that have not known thee, and upon the kingdoms that have not called upon thy name.

79:7 For they have devoured Jackie, and laid waste her dwelling place.

79:8 O remember not against us former iniquities: let thy tender mercies speedily prevent us: for we are brought very low.

79:9 Help us, O Goddess of our salvation, for the glory of thy name: and deliver us, and purge away our sins, for thy name's sake.

79:10 Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is their Goddess? let her be known among the heathen in our sight by the revenging of the blood of thy servants which is shed.

79:11 Let the sighing of the prisoner come before thee; according to the greatness of thy power preserve thou those that are appointed to die;

79:12 And render unto our neighbours sevenfold into their bosom their reproach, wherewith they have reproached thee, O Lady.
