String formatting:

mystring = “kindly help to review”

print “Please %s!”%mystring returns “Please kindly help to review!”

Tuples:

A tuple consists of values separated by commas. They are often used to manage ordered pairs and returning multiple values from a function.

Tuple creation:

emptyTuple = ()

singleItemTuple = (“one”,) #note the comma

mytuple = 20, 17, ‘t’

mytuple = (20, 17, ‘t’)

Tuple accessing:

mytuple[0] returns 20

Dictionaries:

A dictionary is a set of key value pairs. All keys in a dictionary are unique.

Dictionary creation:

myemptydictionary = {}

mydictionary = {“name”: “Ronald Olsen”, “code”:722848386, “dept”: “IT”}

Dictionary accessing:

mydictionary[‘name’] returns Ronald Olsen

Dictionary deleting:

del mydictionary[‘code’]

Dictionary finding:

mydictionary.has_key(‘code’) returns false

mydictionary.keys() returns [‘name’,’dept’]

mydictionary.items() returns [(‘name’,’Ronald Olsen’),(‘dept’,’IT’)]

‘dept’ in mydictionary returns true

‘phone number’ in mydictionary returns false
