“You’re wearing the tie. It looks great on you, Style Maven.” Tamiko wore it over a t-shirt, a black pleated mini skirt, and knee high boots.

Tamiko nodded toward my lunchbox. “Your mom’s work?”

“Yup. Is it the other side of awesome or what?”

Tamiko ran her hand over the tie. “What inspired you?”

“It was more like realization than inspiration.” I fidgeted with the lunchbox. “Thinking about Mom hurts. Seeing her things hurts. But it’s more painful not to.”

“I checked out the art website. Maybe you’ll show me what else you have planned?” Tamiko’s smile wavered.

“Hi, Tamiko.”

Tara. Blurk. She looked like she was ready for a day of shopping at Bergdorf Goodman’s and Henri Bendel. She’d fit right in with the other snobs there.

Tamiko nodded at her. “Hi.”
