Chapter Six

NINO THANKFULLY escaped Bubala’s without incident after introducing Terry to Jay. The newly paired duo walked hand in hand down the street, and though he had no interest in Terry’s chubby friend, John, he couldn’t bring himself to hurt the guy by telling him the truth. So he spared John’s feelings by lying. Which wasn’t like him at all. He usually told it like it was. If he wasn’t interested, he didn’t sugarcoat it. Most guys got the “fuck off” look and went on their merry way. But did he do that to John? No. Like a dumbass, he pretended to have some place to be, and instead of leaving it at that, he gave John his number.

The guy’s eyes had shone brighter than floodlights. And if that wasn’t enough, he actually liked sparing John’s feelings. What kind of crazy train had he boarded? Whatever it was, he needed to hop the fuck off. Sure, what he’d done proved his trick from this morning wrong. He wasn’t some unfeeling plastic. He was, in fact, the better man. Score one for Nino. That gave him some satisfaction, but at the same time, he had just seriously screwed up.

By giving the guy his number, he broke another of his six rules.

Exchanging numbers complicated things, and he never gave it out to guys he fucked, much less men he didn’t even know. His dalliances were one-time events, and for someone to have his number meant they could hound him forever in hopes of obtaining a repeat performance.

John wouldn’t be getting one sweaty roll in the hay, much less two, but now that John had a means to contact him, he’d have to come up with multiple lies to get out of seeing him whenever John called. He’d only have to keep that up until the guy went back to wherever the hell he was from, but it didn’t make it any less of a hassle.

If he’d simply followed his own rules, he wouldn’t be in this mess.

And the fact that this was the second rule of his he’d broken in twenty-four hours seriously pissed the shit out of him.

When had he suddenly developed a conscience? He didn’t give one shit about other people’s feelings. Now, all of a sudden, he was doing things he’d never have done last week, much less yesterday. His life needed to get back under control, the way he liked it.

This new man he’d suddenly become needed to die a quick death, and the only way he could figure to return to the man he used to be was by refocusing his efforts on the hunt. If he found some willing, greedy bottom to take what he planned on unleashing, he’d feel more like himself again. More centered.

A good come always cured what ailed him.

But he wouldn’t find his usual prey out here on the street, among the heavyset hairy man parade, and he didn’t have time to scour Provincetown for a fuck. He needed it now.

Desperate times called for desperate measures, so he turned on his phone and eyed the Cyber icon.
