Lists of Tasks:
Small Projects:
Sticky Notes
Whiteboard
Sheet of Paper
Reminder list on phone
Medium to Large Projects:
Spreadsheet List
Action Item List sorted by category, date, and person responsible
Task Management App
For smaller projects, lists can be enough to keep track of tasks. The simplest way to manage a small number of tasks is to put them on a sticky note, place it where you can see it, and throw it out when the tasks are done. A better option for a larger number of tasks is to use a list or bullet format on a whiteboard or sheet of paper. You can use pen and paper or document it on your computer. You can also use reminders on your smartphone, which has the added benefit of letting you add alerts. All of these options work for smaller projects that donât require a lot of management or communication outside the household.
For medium to large projects, tasks are easier to manage if theyâre organized in one place and distributed to the people involved. This can be done in a spreadsheet or using a task management app. Spreadsheet programs like Excel are useful because you can use them to easily sort and update items. Hereâs an example of an action item list that has several columns of information: status, task, category, owner, due date, and notes.
Statusâidentifies the task as in progress, complete, ongoing, or on hold
Taskâdescribes the work to be done
Categoryâgroups tasks, like preparation and post-surgery (optional)
Ownerâidentifies who is responsible for completing that task
Due Dateâthe date when the task should be completed
Notesâany clarifications about that task
