Many systems use information to make decisions; if this information is erroneous it could lead to nonoptimal decisions, and in some cases decisions made based on erroneous data could be dangerous. Consider, for example, an intensive care unit of a hospital in which sensors monitor the status of an operated patient so that the body temperature is kept beneath certain levels. Given that the sensors are working constantly, there is potential for them to produce erroneous readings.
