Will

I’m jolted awake at the sounds of the birds outside chirping away. The room is bright with the morning sun and I feel Alana’s body resting on my chest. I glance down to see the top of her dark head and give it a gentle kiss before moving slowly out of bed, careful to not wake her. How is it possible that my short time with Alana has made me feel as if I’ve been with her for years? I watch her sleeping body nestle in the sheets for a few seconds and smile to myself. She’s just so beautiful.

I quietly walk out of the bedroom wearing only my briefs and make my way downstairs to the kitchen. I start on breakfast for me and her but not without coffee first. I start the pot before gathering ingredients out of my cupboards for a big breakfast spread. My cellphone I placed on the counter begins to ring with Nigel’s contact.

“Yes?” I answer, pouring in water for the coffee pot.

“Good morning, your majesty. The Queen would like to know about your whereabouts this morning as your fitting for the garden party is starting within an hour.”

I huff, not in the mood for being bogged by responsibilities and duties this morning.

“Reschedule the fitting,” I say, turning to face the sound of bare feet padding on the hardwood as Alana saunters to the counter. She’s a sight to behold with her messy hair and body wrapped in my fitted shirt. “I have other duties to take care of this morning.”

“But--”

“Cancel it.” I give Nigel no room for rebuttal as I press the end call button fast. Alana looks at the phone in my hand.

“Don’t cancel business on my part,” she says.

“Trust me, I’m not. More important things have come up in the last fifteen hours.”

“Like what?”

I peer into her eyes for a second, battling internally if what I’m about to do later on is a good idea. “You’ll see,” I tell her, changing the subject. “After breakfast.”

Alanda perks up in her seat. “What are we having?”

“What are we not having,” I joke back.

I sit throughout breakfast pondering my decision to tell Alana the truth about me today. Call me crazy, but I feel a certain way about Alana that I know I could never feel about another woman in life, ever. I’ve never felt this way prior to meeting Alana, the feeling of being so consumed with someone. The more I talk with her as we eat, I learn so much about her that only furthers my attraction for her like for instance, she graduated from Georgetown with a Degree in Business Management with a minor in Creative Writing. I can tell she’s a smart woman who values her education.

After we clean up, Alana showers in my master bathroom and dresses back in the red dress from last night. Even with wet hair and last night’s makeup on, she looks just as radiant. I told her to hurry in getting ready because I had something to show her and I wouldn’t answer her questions until we get there.
