CHAPTER 27

FAMILY MEETING—more like threats and craziness, Syl thought as she listened to her parents's crazy talk and plans. She wanted to vomit at how sick these people were. Parang pera lang ang nakikita ng mga ito. Wala nang iba. Lahat gagawin para sa pera. Lahat gagawin para maging maginhawa ang buhay kahit pa mali 'yon.

She didn't want to participate in their craziness, but she had to act like she was still easy to control like before, or else these people might imprison her in that attic again. Truthfully, she was still afraid that her fear might consume her if her trauma got the better of her again, but for her baby's sake, she already decided to fight and conquer her fear.

Syl knew it was not an easy feat, but her unborn child was giving her strength she didn't have before.

"—It's not a problem, darling, since Maria is in Izaak's house already," anang babae na hindi matanggap ni Syl na ina niya. "Not only that, we can use Syl as our bargaining chip with that jewelry store owner. It's a win-win."

Tumawa ang ama ni Syl. Halatang siyang-siya. "Nice! Nice! And here I thought Maria would remain a useless rebel daughter. Good thing we have twin daughters, huh? Just like what my father told me, daughters are a source of money!" He laughed like a maniac again.

Syl internally grimaced. As if I would let you use me to get money from Ream. Not happening. That was why it was a must to not let these people find out that she was carrying Ream's child. Definitely not!

"Good thing we have spies in Izaak's house." Mahinang tumawa ang ginang. "Nalaman natin ang plano ni Syl." Dinuro-duro ng ginang ang sentido ni Syl. "How much of an idiot could you be talking about your plans out in the open? Goodness!"

Syl didn't say anything, but she should've known not to speak with Manang Koring in the kitchen. It was her fault indeed. Pero huli na para magsisi siya. Ang dapat niyang gawin ngayon ay mag-isip kung paano makakatakas dito.

"We will contact that wealthy jewelry owner tomorrow," anang ina ni Syl. "No need to worry, darling. We will be swimming in money in the next few days. Tama talaga ang ginawa ko na alagaan ang mukha nitong si Dinsyl. Maraming naaakit." Tinaasan ng kilay ng ginang si Syl. "Anything to say for yourself?"

Tahimik na umiling si Syl na parang kaawa-awa.

Tumawa ang ginang. "Good. You have to contribute to the family like how I contributed to mine when I was your age."

Nanatiling tahimik si Syl na ikinainis ng ama nito dahilan para malakas na tapik-tapikin nito ang pisngi ni Syl.

"You should smile, Dinsyl. You should be happy that you will be of help to us. We're family, after all."

We're not. Syl denied it strongly, but only to herself.

"Oh, siya, bumalik ka na sa kuwarto mo," anang ina ni Syl. "Ayusin ang sarili mo para maging kaaya-aya ka naman. Look at me, still beautiful and fresh.
