Chapter 4

Blake stepped into the pantry off the lounge to fetch Vadim a beer. They’d spent the earlier part of the day studying together, Vadim at his desk with a laptop and Blake face down on Vadim’s bed with his Sociology book under him and his skirt flipped up around his waist so his ass hung out the back of it. Now and then Vadim would skate across the floor on his wheeled desk chair and launch an attack on Blake’s ass with the ruler he kept handy, even though Blake was pretty sure there was nothing about Existentialism in Roman Catholics Martyrs that required measuring.

Blake liked the ruler, liked the sharp, fierce bursts of pain it delivered, but he wished Vadim would lay into him with it a little more steadily, give him something to grab hold of, not those fleeting one-off surprise attacks.

Vadim had promised there’d be more later, but for the time being they were watching a baseball game downstairs because Vadim wanted to parade Blake’s boner around. Blake wasn’t the only one whose big brother made him wear his skirt in the house, but he was the only one whose dick regularly extended the front of it, hardened by the leering appraisals and mocking remarks of his frat brothers.

He was rooting around in the fridge to find Vadim’s favorite IPA when someone behind him said, “Put that ass away, will you? You’re blinding me.”

He turned around to find Paolo, who’d forgiven him for knocking over the beer pong table once he’d been picked as someone’s little brother, and Xiang, another pledge they’d gotten friendly with.

“Don’t you know you gotta bend at the knees?” Xiang demonstrated a dippity-do curtsey using the wide legs of his cargo shorts. Blake thrust his ass back at them and flipped his skirt up to moon them in response.

“Faggots.”

The laughter in the room died as Blake wheeled to find Thad lurking in the doorway. Thad was just a pledge, like they were, but he thought he was something more than that because he was already such a typical frat boy with his perfectly preppy clothes and blond hair over tan skin.

Thad had been sneering in Blake’s direction the whole two weeks they’d been pledges together, but this was the first time he’d gone as far as to use a homophobic slur, and Blake definitely didn’t like it. He didn’t like being jeered at himself, of course, but what pissed him off worse was how Thad had included Paolo and Xiang in that word.

Blake actually was a faggot, and he liked hanging out with other gay guys well enough, but he liked hanging out with guys who weren’t gay too. He didn’t want to be limited in his friendships, but this was what always happened. His friends got labeled gay by association and most straight guys couldn’t deal with it.

Blake swaggered over to Thad. It was hard to swagger in a skirt but he must have pulled it off because Thad backed up a step.
