Suppose you accelerate to a speed of v and then just let the ice carry you. How far will you get? This is a classic case of energy conservation. If we assume the ground to be even, that is, not inclined, the only forms of energy involved will be the kinetic energy and frictional energy. Initially all the energy is in form of kinetic energy. During the motion, it transforms into frictional energy. When you come to a halt, all the initial kinetic energy has turned into frictional energy. In form of an equation it looks like this:
