Elevate Your Expectations

It was time for our daughter Tara to take a driver’s education class. When they were registering for the course, Karen and Tara met the instructor for the first time. After introductions, he turned to Tara and asked, “Do you drink?”

Tara, surprised by the question, immediately said, “No.”

The instructor responded, “You will. Have you tried drugs?”

Again, “No!”

And the guy said again, “You will. Do you party?”

Disbelieving, Karen asked, “Is there some reason you’re asking all these questions?”

The man responded, “All teenagers do these things.”

After an uncomfortable moment or two, Karen and Tara politely excused themselves, headed to the car—and never returned.

We’re not surprised if you’re thinking, What’s with this guy? Or possibly you’re thinking, He’s right!

Well, we actually think he’s wrong. In our opinion, this man has not only bought into the stereotypes people routinely accept about our youth, he’s a propagator of them.
