Naps (Those Things Adults Long For)

Your children will want to nap anywhere from once to several times a day. It really depends on your child. Some kids are nappers, some aren’t. Newborns nap all the time. By the time your children reach age 3 or 4, they may be taking only one nap a day or simply lying down with a book to rest. Some kids may want a nap until they’re 5 or 6. Some kids start fighting naps at age 2. You’ll have to determine what your children need as they grow up.

Schedules

Babies to toddler ages usually will take morning and afternoon naps. The time varies from child to child.

Don’t worry about the amount of sleep that your children are getting. They’ll sleep as much as they need to. Although, when afternoon naps are getting longer and your children are going to bed later and later at night, you may want to start waking them up earlier from their afternoon naps. You don’t want to have to stay up until midnight because your toddler’s nap was too long and now she isn’t tired.

Try keeping your children on a daily schedule (or routine) for naps. Your children will go down easier knowing that naptime comes after lunch and a story.
