CAKE PROJECTS

You’ve learnt the theory, you’ve made your cake, you’ve covered it to perfection, so now it’s time to start painting, I hope that you’re feeling excited, because I am!

As much as I love to bake, painting is my favourite part of the project, though I still get anxious when I start a design, wondering if it will work out. I suppose it is a little like stage fright—if I didn’t get worried maybe it would be because I had grown bored of the process, so I welcome the nerves.

If you have never painted before (let alone painted onto fondant), I’m sure that there is a whole flight of butterflies congregating in your stomach, but don’t let that stop you. I promise, the pleasure to be gained by picking up your paintbrush will compensate for any nerves you may feel. But until you are confident, refer back to the Design and Painting Techniques chapter when you start a new project.
