Chapter 18 - The Greed Goes On

"Greed is a fat demon with a small mouth and whatever you feed it is never enough."

- Jan willem van de weterring -

Monday evening arrived. The beehive had been stirred. There was an unusual amount of activity and quite a few people present. The night guards were there, and Lugo and his sidekick and some other fellow thugs were also present. I was given a hamburger for dinner. Food was so scarce that I was glad to receive it. They gave me a cigarette, and then all hell broke loose. Lugo came running in, a rabid dog with his crazy sidekick.

He yelled, “Get up, you piece of shit!”

I really thought the Grim Reaper was paying me a visit and Lugo had every intention of ending it right there and then.

“You lied to us,” he snarled.

Maybe I did, maybe I didn’t. Who cared?

Mr. Sidekick, or, as I fondly called him, Mr. Torture, stuck the barrel of the gun deep into my mouth. I tasted the silvery metal. I thought he was going to perform a tonsillectomy because he had the barrel so deep down my throat. It was revolting, to say the least, and I could not breathe. Well, it didn’t seem like I had to worry about being in the warehouse much longer.

“What?” I mumbled. Saying anything was difficult.

“You have a house in North Miami Beach and never told us about it. I found it while going through your files,” he said with bravado.

Now, if he had half a brain and could read, this could all have been avoided, but he didn’t.

“That house was sold three years ago,” I mumbled. It was the truth, and dimwit here could have verified it.

“Bullshit!” he yelled.

What could I say? You should do have done your homework first? But then again, I’m willing to bet you weren’t a good student. It was amazing the madness and greed he exhibited.

Since the sidekick, Mr. Torture, was getting another opportunity to make me miserable, he took advantage of the opportunity. I could tell he really enjoyed it and lived for this. He shoved the gun further into my mouth to the point where my lips felt as if they were going to rip. Just to make me sweat and get a little kick, he cocked the hammer and laughed demonically.

“I’m going to find out, and if you’re lying, you’re dead!” he yelled. The threat had no affect on me by now. It served no purpose to threaten me anymore, and I shrugged it off.

But Mr. Torture was in a sadistic frenzy, and he was having too much fun to stop. He pulled the trigger of the gun, and I heard the click. He let out another of his evil laughs. He pulled the trigger again, another click. No bullet to the brain, just another sick laugh. He wasn’t getting the response he wanted from me, so he stopped and pulled the gun out of my mouth. I think he was disappointed that I hadn’t soiled my pants or tried to plead for mercy.
