The green basilisk is also known as the plumed basilisk or the Jesus Christ lizard. That name comes from this creature’s unusual ability to walk on water. Actually, it’s more of a run. Basilisks have extra long toes on their back feet. They’re able to travel short distances over water by slapping their rear feet on the surface and using their tails for support.

Blue Jeans poison dart frogs are commonly found in the leaf litter of rainforests. There, female frogs lay eggs. Once they’re fertilized, it takes about two weeks for them to hatch into tadpoles. Then a parent—usually the dad—carries them up into the rainforest canopy and leaves them in a puddle of water in a bromeliad plant. There, the newly hatched tadpoles are safer from predators than they would be on the forest floor.
