To enhance the stability of the screw, orthodontists will ensure that there is sufficient osseous density, cortical thickness and adequate distance between the roots of the teeth.

Oral hygiene is crucial for a successful treatment outcome as plaque accumulation leads to peri‐implantitis and failure of the mini screws. The patient must be advised to keep the implants clean and free of plaque using interdental brushes for better access.

Screw Removal

Removal of the mini‐screw can take place with or without local anaesthesia. Since the mini‐screws are not osseointegrated, simply unscrewing the implant will suffice. Wound healing of the area takes place within a few days after removal. The area must be kept free of plaque.
