Availability: None by this name has been imported in the past 35 years, and none has been seen by the author in any private collection in recent years. All were scatter sizes as no large rugs were ever woven in this type.

Where made: In the seaport town of Derbend. Just east of the Daghestan district and barely northeast of the Shirvan district.

Characteristics: Mumford said of these in his 1900 edition: "They are poor Daghestans and not particularly good Nomads. They usually have as a main design a large star design or some other geometric figure repeated three or four times traversely on a field of red or blue...." This might have been the description of a Kabistan or Kuba or some Daghestans.

Conclusion: Since none have been imported under this name and since early authorities said they were coarse and mediocre, the name has disappeared from the trade. No doubt many of these were brought in as Kabistans or Daghestans.
