Chapter 7
ââVincentââ
After an hour of wandering after I grabbed the sword, I gave up and found a nice, quiet, deadend to curl up and hide in, locking myself in a thick illusion that would take a Daeum themself to unravel. Something I knew Melanie wasnât capable of. Her ice magic might be problematic if I ran into her, but that wouldnât be the end of the world. Our different destruction magics were on the same level, and she had nothing extra to help her. I had my illusions.
For the first time in my life that wasnât actually comforting.
We both had the same help. There was a Daeum on our side, and she was just shifting us around, giving us tasks. It was very helpful to be in the right place, but what if the other one noticed? What if the evil Daeum found out and just shifted us back? Or worse? No one had actually said what would happen if one or both of them got fed up. These beings were too overpowered, even for those of us considered strong.
I tried to shake off the dread as I got up. I needed to think clearly if I wanted to get out of here. I briefly wondered if this was the maze we were eventually supposed to end up in. The illusion magic was hard to find, but once I found the correct path and disrupted the thread I was able to finally leave the tunnel. It felt like someone had already taken it apart and fixed it, leaving the threads more jagged than they should be. I wasnât about to complain. One less problem for me, and I was more than happy to finally be out of that dark mess of tunnels.
It was closer to noon now from the way the sun hung in the sky.
âNow what?â I asked myself as I took in the greenery in the distance.
I had completed my task, and thankfully it wasnât even hard. The sword hung loosely at my side, its ability making me uneasy. I hoped Cat could remove the enchantment, or maybe there was a way to destroy it. No one needed a weapon of this caliber.
âYou need to come with me now." a voice said, causing me to look around.
No one was there.
I carefully scrutinized the area once before repeating with magic, letting it scan for everything. Illusions were all over this area. From the density of the forest, even to some of the rocks, it was difficult to see what wasnât made of magic. Several of the spells were much stronger than anything I could do, but very different from the magic I had felt with the Daeum.
There was no other statement to help me pinpoint who had spoken. âIâm listening, but I clearly cannot hope to follow if youâre invisible." I replied, making no commitments to actually follow along.
There was a chuckle, but it sounded off, almost like a horse was mocking me.
âIf I appear before you, Iâll have to erase your memory.
